What are accommodations like?
Most apartments are smaller than what those from the west are accustomed to. These days most schools offer studio apartments that are roughly 400-500 sq feet. They will include a refrigerator, stove top, separated bathroom, laundry services, bed, TV, wardrobe. Every place is a little different but all are fine, the key is to just lower your expectations a little as everything is a little smaller than most are accustomed to.
Do you live alone or with a roommate?
These days 90% of schools offer single studio apartments. In some instances you could have a roommate but it is highly unlikely.
Are accommodations really free?
Yes, the school will offer the apartment rent free. All teachers will be responsible for their monthly bills (Hydro, water, gas, internet etc.) Usually doesn¡¯t amount to much more than 100,000KRW per month.
What is the standard pay in Korea?
The pay in Korean Won ranges from 1.9 million per month to around 2.5 million per month. It really depends on the type of job and ones experience and education level. Most positions range from 2.0-2.2/2.3 though. Kindergarten schools tend to pay a little more but there is more work required so it really balances out. Some positions in larger cities like Seoul may offer a little higher salary but it is certainly offset by the higher cost of living.
